Description(Seal Harbor [ME]: High Loft, 1982-83) 34.5 cm; (Shyp of Fooles) [36 ff.]; (Ship to Paradise) unbound, 9 ff., plus 7 plates; publisher's original half brown morocco, blue-gray paper boards, publisher's original beige cloth box.
Number 44 of 50 deluxe copies of The Shyp of Fooles, from a total edition of 200 copies printed and published by August Heckscher at his Printing Office at High Loft. The text of the Shyp is taken from the 1509 English edition translated by Alexander Barclay (the present text edited by Phyllis C. Robinson). The illustrations are reproduced from the 1874 "facsimiled" recuttings after Dürer's woodcuts for the 1497 first Basel edition of Das Narrenschiff. These deluxe copies contain an unbound portfolio called Ship to Paradise, containing six etchings (plus etched title and two smaller etched vignettes) by Robert S. Neuman, with an introduction by John C. Olin.
The Shyp of Fooles is dated 1982 in the colophon; the Ship to Paradise is dated 1983 in its colophon.
