Description(Munich: Theo. Stroefer's Kunstverlag [1880]) Folio; [4 ff.] lxviii pp., plus 15 plates; original publisher's white cloth stamped in black, silver, and gold (black cloth box, gilt-stamped red leather label).

Most authorities give 1880 as the date of this edition, the first with these illustrations. Klinger supplied fifteen full-page etching and aquatints, and thirty-one etched vignettes interspersed with the text. These are printed on thin china paper, mounted onto the page. The text pages are surrounded with wood-engraved decorative borders after designs by Klinger; the binding decoration was also designed by him.
