Description(New York: G. P. Putnam & Son; London: Sampson Low & Co., 1867) 36.5 cm; 397-476 pp., plus extra title page and illustrations; 19th-century gilt-stamped red morocco (Matthews).
This is the so-called "Large Paper" issue, and has been extensively extra-illustrated. The extra title page dated 1877 presumably refers to the date when the volume was rebound with the illustrations; it is not a publication date.
This volume contains a frontispiece drawing attributed to [C? O?] Skinner, a design for an Art Union medal by Peter Paul Duggan, and several portrait drawings by Benjamin Lander. This volume is also notable for containing a large group of prints after designs by F. O. C. Darley.
The MFA has another extra-illustrated copy of this title; see accession number 1961.364.
