DescriptionBack decorated with engraved figures of the Dioscuri. The twin sons of Zeus are represented as winged youths, armed with shields and spears, who wear only helmets and boots. Very well preserved, with tang for insertion into a handle. Dark patina covers most of the surface with some areas of lighter green.
ProvenanceBy 1973: with Mathias Komor, 19 East 71st Street, New York 10021 (said to come from the Matthews Collection); purchased by MFA from Mathias Komor, April 11, 1973
