犬と遊ぶ子供と娘
Many of the works of Kyōsai’s later years do not include satirical elements but create a strong impact through his remarkable drawing skill. In this design for a flat fan, once mounted on a bamboo framework, a young woman looks back over her shoulder; the child on her back leans down; and the little dog jumps up toward the toy the child dangles on a string, all cleverly curved to fit the rounded shape of the fan. The woman's long sleeves indicate that she is not yet married, so she is probalby the child's big sister rather than the mother.
