DescriptionFrom a series based on selected designs from Hokusai's "Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji," for use as folded calligraphy copybooks (eiri ori tehon). The MFA has 8 prints (49.640 to 49.647) from what was apparently a set of 12; a complete (?) set is in the Irie Collection at the Hyôgo Prefectural History Museum.
Compare the Hokusai print of the same title: 11.17535, 21.5371 . This version of the scene, however, is very different; it appears to show an ocean view, which was not actually visible from this location in Edo.
