Description(Paris: A. Braulart, 1835) Octavo, two vols. bound as one; (v. 1) 311 pp., plus 21 plates; (v. 2) 194 pp., plus 11 plates; contemporary half blind- and gilt-stamped brown morocco, speckled decorated paper boards.

Literary illustrations (incorporating contemporary political caricature); author portrait.

First edition with these illustrations, incorporating caricatures of contemporary political figures, including King Louis Philippe (vol. 1, facing p. 134) and Thiers (vol. 2, facing p. 138). The donor has identified these and several others. According to the donor's inscription on the front flyleaf verso, and several descriptions from book dealers, these were suppressed at the time and are often not found in copies of this book. This copy does contain the complete number called for.

In addition to the engravers listed in the constituents, the following, who could not be identified, also contributed: Derly, A. Milin, Lejeune aîné, V. Tronchon.
