Second edition [dated 1798 by Roscoe] of vol. 1 (Land Birds), "super royal" copy (see Roscoe, p. 52 and 59); first edition of vol. 2 (Water Birds), "thin royal" copy (see Roscoe, p. 65). Among variants, the vignette on p. 136, vol. 2 is in the first state (Roscoe, p. 69); that on p. 269 also in the first (R, p. 70).
