Description(Paris: Basan and Le Mire [1767-1771]) Quarto; 141 leaves; modern gilt-stamped red morocco.
Engraved title; illustrations to Ovid's poem. A bound set of the 140 full-page illustrations to Ovid, plus engraved title, commissioned by Basan and Le Mire, later incorporated into the four-volume translation published from 1767 to 1771 by a group of booksellers (MFA copy: 37.1711a-d). Also included in the book were a number of fleurons, headpieces, and one tailpiece designed and mostly etched by Choffard. The MFA also owns a bound set of these illustrations in proof state before letters (M18663-M18804). The illustrators and engravers are listed in the constituents.
