Literary illustrations; frontispiece author portrait. French translation from Italian. In addition to the illustrations after Cochin commissioned for this edition, the illustrations from the 1773 Baskerville Italian edition (MFA copy: 37.1347a-d) are also included, as is often the case. These have had new engraved borders added, in addition to new versions after Moreau of two plates, for cantos 5 and 12. This copy is bound in four volumes; the first three carry Brunet's imprint; the fourth (dated 1783) carries that of Laporte.
