Obverse: Profile bust of woman looking to proper right, wearing a laureate wreath; inscribed at edge "REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE" and under bust "JC CHAPLAIN".
Reverse: Winged victory figure at center holding a trumpet in her left hand and a laureate wreath in her right, above a putto holding an inscription plaque over the city of Paris; inscribed at edge "EXPOSITION UNIVERSELLE INTERNATIONALE DE 1878", on plaque "VERNER/& HALLE", below "CHAPLAIN", and in exergue "PARIS".
