Description(Antwerp: Adriaen Collaert, about 1595?) Octavo; 18 leaves; contemporary gilt-stamped fanfare-influenced brown morocco, brown cloth box (BOUND with 25.706.2-.4)

Architectural title page and illustrations from the Life of the Virgin. The full engraved inscription on the title reads: "Virginis Mariae vita. Illri. et Ro. D. Ferdinando Ximenez Archidiacono Bracarensi, et sanctæ sedis Ap[cross?]cæ Protonot. Adrian. Collaert D.D. Adria. Collaert invent. sculp. et excud. Antverpiæ." The date has been ascribed from the binding, which appears to be contemporary with the one dated imprint in the volume.

Previous inscriptions and numbers effaced from the lower part of the plates. Early notes in the Dept. files say these are copied from Thomas de Leu, but it could be the other way around.
ProvenanceHoratio Greenough Curtis (1844-1922, inscription on front flyleaf "H.G. Curtis Paris June 1902); his widow, by whom given to the MFA, April 1925.
