春の部。島津藩の下屋敷にあった千代が池は、南北朝時代に新田義興(にったよしおき)の戦死を知った恋人千代が入水したとされる。池の東北岸には千代が衣服を掛けたという衣掛松(きぬかけまつ)があり、明治の小説家田山花袋(たやま かたい)はその下で読書をしたという。 -- 藤澤紫K
