夏の部。享保年間(1716~36)、赤坂から虎の門に至る溜池(ためいけ)の土手の補強のため桐を植えたことから、この辺りを桐畑と称した。手前には二本の桐の木が配される。左手山王台の日枝(ひえ)神社へは参拝客が舟で行き来したという。 -- 藤澤紫K
