DescriptionOne of a set of two special prints possibly inspired by Sharaku's bust portraits of actors; the other print, not in the MFA, shows the famous chanter Tomimoto Buzendayû.
This impression lacks the title and signature that appear in the upper right corner of some other known impressions. It is uncertain whether they rubbed off accidentally, together with the top layer of mica on the background, or whether this impression is from an edition never had them in the first place.
Signed (this impression unsigned; Eiri ga on others)
ProvenanceJune 1913, purchased by William S. and John T. Spaulding from Sumitomo collection; December 1, 1921, given by William S. and John T. Spaulding to the Museum.
