昔天智天皇の皇弟皇子 大友の乱をさけ此すずか山にわけ入給ふに 柴の庵に壱人の翁あり 皇弟ここに宿し給ふ 翁つくづくと見奉り 君は王位龍顔顕れまします われにひとりの姫あり 君に相ならふて相貴し とて皇弟に奉る 則最愛あつて 我は浄見原親王也 とてしばらく此家に忍ひ給ふ 翁誠心を尽くし 位奉り後大友を亡し位に即給ふ 天武天皇是也 鈴鹿の社は此翁を祭ると云

ProvenanceBy 1911, purchased by William Sturgis Bigelow (b. 1850 - d. 1926), Boston [see note 1]; 1911, gift of Bigelow to the MFA. (Accession Date: August 3, 1911)
NOTES:
[1] Much of Bigelow's collection of Asian art was formed during his residence in Japan between 1882 and 1889, although he also made acquisitions in Europe and the United States. Bigelow deposited many of these objects at the MFA in 1890 before donating them to the Museum's collection at later dates.
