源三位頼政 平家をほろぼさんと高倉宮に謀反を御すすめ奉 小勢をもつて義兵をあげられしに 天運来らず つひに宇治の軍に利なくして 平等院の扇の芝にて辞世を遺し 英名をとどろかす 実に和漢無双の豪傑なり

[1] Much of Bigelow's collection of Asian art was formed during his residence in Japan between 1882 and 1889, although he also made acquisitions in Europe and the United States. Bigelow deposited many of these objects at the MFA in 1890 before donating them to the Museum's collection at later dates.
