往古 大和国に法験するどき悪僧あり 帝王を恨奉りて 龍門の滝に壇を構へ 八千八竜を壺中に封 炎暑に烈き旱なりしを 妙間とよべる美女を召て 勅を下し給ふに 色をもていざなひけれバ 彼僧忽修法くじけ 天下甘雨にうるほひけるとぞ

[1] Much of Bigelow's collection of Asian art was formed during his residence in Japan between 1882 and 1889, although he also made acquisitions in Europe and the United States. Bigelow deposited many of these objects at the MFA in 1890 before donating them to the Museum's collection at later dates.
