DescriptionManchu woman's domestic formal robe (pao) for a birthday of red twill-weave silk with side closure and wide horse-hoof cuffs with design of medallions with crane, clouds, and eight Daoist symbols including fan, flower basket, sword, flaming jewel, magical flute, castanets, crutch and gourd, bamboo tubes and rods embroidered in blue, white, green, red, yellow, and black silk on red twill-weave silk ground; symbols also include flaming skull, endless knot, vase, coins, carp, and coral; lower part of robe has waves with symbols embroidered in above colors; neck and sleeve bands with cranes, clouds and Taoist symbols embroidered on a black twill-weave silk ground; bands are woven with silk and glit paper, embroidered with silk and glit paper yarns.
