Description京の祇園祭の行事の一つで、芸妓たちが仮装する練物(ねりもの)を描いたシリーズ。初代叶■(王扁+民)子(かのうみんし)のお蘭役に扮した宇治屋の芸妓三輪の。 ■(王扁+民)子は文化11(1814)年、1月大坂、角の芝居「けいせい筑紫〓(つくしのつまごと)」で娘お蘭の役を、同年4月8日から京、南側芝居(みなみがわしばい)でも同一狂言(きょうげん)の同一役を演じている。 -- 田辺 昌子K

NOTES:
[1] Much of Bigelow's collection of Asian art was formed during his residence in Japan between 1882 and 1889, although he also made acquisitions in Europe and the United States. Bigelow deposited many of these objects at the MFA in 1890 before donating them to the Museum's collection at later dates.
