Inscriptions工藤左エ衛門祐経は 所領の遺恨に依って河津三郎祐保を討 其二男箱王父の菩提の為とて箱根の別當きやうじつの弟子となる しかるに人となるにおよんて父の仇を討ん志を定む ある時當山へ左エ門祐経来る時 祐経に対面しあかぎづくりの短刀を貰ひ 弥(いよいよ)敵を討んと思 ひそかに當山をぬけ出下山なし 北条を頼てえぼし子となつて兄弟共に十八年のかん苦を経て 終に建久四年五月廿八日冨士の裾野に於て兄十郎と共に工藤を討年比の本望を達す

NOTES:
[1] Much of Bigelow's collection of Asian art was formed during his residence in Japan between 1882 and 1889, although he also made acquisitions in Europe and the United States. Bigelow deposited many of these objects at the MFA in 1890 before donating them to the Museum's collection at later dates.
