Inscriptions義経逆桜(さかささくら)は石薬師寺の向ひ民家の裏少し林のうちにあり むかし範頼上洛の時名馬生食(いけづき)の出し所はここならん とめぐり見給ひ 馬の鞭を倒(さかしま)にさし給ふ後に枝葉栄えり 義経逆桜と云か田宿の内に有 ちなみによってここへ義経をえがくものなり

NOTES:
[1] Much of Bigelow's collection of Asian art was formed during his residence in Japan between 1882 and 1889, although he also made acquisitions in Europe and the United States. Bigelow deposited many of these objects at the MFA in 1890 before donating them to the Museum's collection at later dates.
