表題下の口上文は以下の通り(句読点編者)。

「乍憚口上書
 一、蜘男佐藤勇吉事芸名養老勇扇ハ、羽前国米沢の出生にて本年五十二歳、頭七寸五分、其體七寸にて、両方の腕四段におれ、自然と顔に愛敬をふくミ、諸人の愛顧をうくる事尤也。此度、養老瀧五郎の門人となり手品、早業、はうた、手おどり、不具の身ながらしぜんと備わる芸の手れん、昨今東京市中の大評」

NOTES:
[1] Much of Bigelow's collection of Asian art was formed during his residence in Japan between 1882 and 1889, although he also made acquisitions in Europe and the United States. Bigelow deposited many of these objects at the MFA in 1890 before donating them to the Museum's collection at later dates.
