雄略天皇の御時、丹後国に浦島子というあり ある日独小舟に乗りて海上に釣りし時霊亀顕れ彼の亀に乗り龍の都へ至りぬ 日を送りて家に帰らんと思い此事を神女に告けけれは神女別れを恋慕ふといへとも止らづ 終に別れとなりかたみに玉匣をもらひて喜び古郷へ帰りしに数百歳を経て七とせの孫に逢ひしとかや

NOTES:
[1] Much of Bigelow's collection of Asian art was formed during his residence in Japan between 1882 and 1889, although he also made acquisitions in Europe and the United States. Bigelow deposited many of these objects at the MFA in 1890 before donating them to the Museum's collection at later dates.
