たゞにや手と云へバ物書く事と知れるも人のおもとする業なれバなり。女ハ墨黒に品とり恐/\しからず。上代のふうの雅たるを学バんぞ奥ゆかし。

人に身を任するの業(わざ)ハ妾(しゃう)に似てそのこと味別なり。あるハ遊女を請け出だせしか妻を忍ぶのたぐひその品さま/\あり。

NOTES:
[1] Much of Bigelow's collection of Asian art was formed during his residence in Japan between 1882 and 1889, although he also made acquisitions in Europe and the United States. Bigelow deposited many of these objects at the MFA in 1890 before donating them to the Museum's collection at later dates.
