Description四代目中村歌右衛門の江戸下りは天保9年3月。画中の役名から出版年が特定できるヵ。「勢は南山の猛虎にひとしく名は呉竹の世々に高し忍びの術は石川五右衛門にあらはし曲者万里の小路より身を捻梅の難波まで鐺がへしに大江戸へ押戻したる一個の英雄黒旋風が李達量も腕におぼへの生且忍浄」

[1] Much of Bigelow's collection of Asian art was formed during his residence in Japan between 1882 and 1889, although he also made acquisitions in Europe and the United States. Bigelow deposited many of these objects at the MFA in 1890 before donating them to the Museum's collection at later dates.
