Inscriptions「先ず以て御町中様、益々御機嫌克く御座遊ばされ恐悦至極に存じ奉り候。随って何かな御覧に入れ奉りたく存じ奉り候へども、是迄様々珍敷き細工物御目に懸け候儀に御座候へば、是と申す品も御座なく、然る処この度京都清水粟田焼瀬戸物細工、御当所様へ取り揃え御覧に入れ奉り候へば、賑々敷御来駕の程希い奉り候、以上」

[1] Much of Bigelow's collection of Asian art was formed during his residence in Japan between 1882 and 1889, although he also made acquisitions in Europe and the United States. Bigelow deposited many of these objects at the MFA in 1890 before donating them to the Museum's collection at later dates.
