秋の部。商いの中心地日本橋に近い神田には職人町が形成され、神田紺屋町には染物職人が多く住した。図は、紺屋の干し場から町筋の方向を望む。画中の染物には、板元名魚屋の「魚」と、広重の「ヒ」「ロ」が意匠化されている。 -- 藤澤紫K

NOTES:
[1] Much of Bigelow's collection of Asian art was formed during his residence in Japan between 1882 and 1889, although he also made acquisitions in Europe and the United States. Bigelow deposited many of these objects at the MFA in 1890 before donating them to the Museum's collection at later dates.
