Kaomise banzuke were traditionally produced to advertise the annual "face showing" ceremony that was held in celebration of the opening of the new kabuki year. This banzuke was produced for the Morita Theater (Edo), and was published on "an auspicious day" in the 1st lunar month of Man'en 2 (1861) by Ogawa Hansuke.
