DescriptionProbably related to a scene in a kabuki dance play that debuted in 1814.5. "Hatsugatsuo no Kiraware Yakko" represented the 4th month in the play "Manete Mimasu Shiki no Wazaogi," a dance of twelve quick-change scenes performed by Ichikawa Danjûrô VII. This print seems to be a little earlier in date and may represent the joke or story on which the dance was based. The first bonito of the season, arranged on a stand for presentation to the lord, is stolen by a kite that swoops down and grabs it; the servant then tries to catch the bird.
