Illustrations of sections and elevations of the five classical architectural orders; author's portrait on title page. The editions and dating of this extremely influential title are quite complex; over 500 editions total are known. When given, this MFA copy, which has no imprint or date, was described as the first edition of 1563, although some date the first to the year before. The MFA owns a Rome 1602 edition (54.1427.2) and a London 1700[?] English edition (1981.494).
