First edition of Latin text of Virgil's work published by Ogilby; he had issued his English translation in 1649, 1650, and 1654, the latter with the same plates as in this edition. The portrait of Ogilby by Faithorne is after Sir Peter Lely; the frontispiece is engraved by Lombart after Cleyn. Most of the plates are executed by Hollar and Lombart after drawings of Cleyn; several are by Faithorne; one (after p. 430) is by Carter; one (after p. 56) is both designed and engraved by Richer; several are unsigned. A double-page map by Hollar of the Eastern Mediterranean showing Aeneas's travels is bound after p. 115.
