Descriptione-mail from the artist to Karen Haas, Lane Curator of Photographs, Oct 2017:
It was taken in July 1969 at my friend's summer home in Provincetown. They are George and Hazel Morrison from Minnesota, both artists. George worked with found driftwood to make large colorful abstractions. Hazel made exquisite drawings on paper of various textures and colors and inks. As I recall the cat was named Alice. She and her kittens were napping on a nearby braided rug. We decided to make a photograph. George removed his clothes. Hazel put on her white gown. I pulled the rug into the picture, called to the cat and pressed the shutter. It was group think.
