DescriptionAt left two men, seen from behind, carrying a basket between them; upper right two old men in hats, bust length; lower right little girl in hat, facing. The figures are definitely studies for the painting of 1876, "Corn Husking at Nantucket," Chicago Art Institute, a variant of which is in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. The other sketches relate less surely to either of the paintings.
ProvenanceMaxim Karolik, Newport; Gift to MFA June 7, 1956
