Inscriptions2 Paper labels on verso of wooden backing board with applied strips of transparent pressure-sensitive packing-type tape over them:

(1) 1 5/8"H x 2 5/8"W, Rectangular gummed paper label with clipped corners and red border with printed "Museum of Fine Arts [in black, bold, san serif font]/62.506 [graphite inscription]/S. E. 1035 [red typewritten text with graphite strikethrough]/Wm. B. and E. H. R./Revere [Black typewritten text]".

(2) 3 3/4"H x 5 1/4"W, White paper label with printed decorative black border and header "Museum of Fine Arts/Boston Massachusetts" followed by red typewritten accession number, "62.506" / Paul REVERE United states 1735-1818/"THE BLOODY MASSACRE [underlined]"/Engraving, hand-colored. NB: Frame Conservator, Andy Haines, indicated in conversation 12/15/09 that the existing frame is not original to the artwork; cast composition would not have in use at the time the print would have been framed, c. 1770.
