DescriptionA warrior holding a whip drives a four-wheeled chariot with wooden wheels and high dash over a fallen enemy on the field of battle. The chariot is pulled by a team of equids wearing protective padded aprons.
ProvenanceBy about 1981, said to have been purchased at auction, PB84, New York, by Emmanuel Tiliakos, Alexander Fine Art, Winchester MA [see note]; 1998, sold by Emmanuel Tiliakos to the MFA. (Accession Date: June 24, 1998)
NOTE: According to the seller at the time of purchase, he had acquired this seal in a larger group of glass and miscellaneous intaglios that were sold by an estate through the auction house PB84 (re-named Sotheby's 84th Street Galleries in 1981).
