DescriptionThe inscription "krabbetje" refers to the sitter's nickname, itself deriving from his mishapen hand. This is a sumptuous impression with considerable plate tone.

Dukes D'Arenberg, Brussels and Nordkirchen, Westphalia (Lugt 567); after about 1918, sold from the Arenberg collection to a London dealer and, in 1952, sold to William Schab (dealer), New York [see note]; 1954, exchanged by Schab with the MFA. (Accession Date: March 11, 1954)

[1] According to Lugt (1956 edition), online at marquesdecollections.fr, a group of prints from the Arenberg collection was sold after World War I to a London dealer and in 1952 to Schab.
