Illustrations of elves and fairies. First U.S. edition, the same year as the first British. The color wood engravings after Doyle's drawings were cut by Edmund Evans. The publisher's binding carries a motif by Doyle on the upper cover.
This copy lacks 6 of the 16 plates. The MFA owns a copy of the second edition (London: 1875) in the Hartley Collection, which contains all the plates.
