Description[Strassburg: Johann Prüss, about 1487-93] Quarto; 256 leaves; blind-stamped pigskin binding, brass clasps, red cloth box. First Edition, with contemporary woodcut bookplate, hand-colored (Schreiber 2038), made 1475-1480 for Hilprand Brandenburg of Bibrach.
ProvenanceHilprand Brandenburg of Bibrach (d. 1514; woodcut bookplate, hand-colored); manuscript presentation on front free endpaper to Carthusian convent of Buxheim; convent dissolved in 1803; library conveyed to Graf von Ostein; in 1810 to Graf von Waldbott-Bassenheim, whose heirs sold it at auction at Carl Förster, Munich, 20 Sept. 1883; Kurt Wolff (Baer auction. 6, 5 Oct. 1926, lot 278); Maggs Bros., London, cat. 656 (1938), no. 310; Sotheby's London, 14 Mar. 1949, lot 184; Heinrich Eisemann, London, from whom purchased by MFA, June 12, 1952.
