DescriptionPainting with no borders, but still with a bottom hanging rod attached. Would have originally been in thangka format.
Painting with decorative borders. Would have originally been in thangka format. A golden-skinned Buddha sits on a lotus throne with his hands in dhyana mudra, holding a begging bowl. He wears an elaborate patched robe. In the stylized clouds above him sit 9 red-skinned, crowned figures, each holding a vase, probably representing Amitayus. Below him, in a stylized mountain setting, sit nine bare-heaed figures, porbably Arhats, each holding different attributes. Very similar in style and layout to MFA 21.742.
