DescriptionArtist's description: "During a summer in Patzcuaro, Mexico towards the end of my vacation, the first reports of an outbreak of war in Europe arrived. That night I saw an old lonely woman, head and face covered with her Rebozo, and I suddenly had a feeling that this figure which had no individual features looked like a symbol of that enormous wave of homelessness which I felt coming all over the world. I made a quick sketch which I later worked into a large watercolor and an oil painting. By 1944, the number of homeless people grew to such proportions that I drew this on a stone to make a print."
