Description(Lyons: Jean de Tournes, 1557) Octavo; 87 [of 92] leaves; modern limp vellum, red cloth slipcase.

Illustrations of scenes from Ovid's Metamorphoses, each surrounded by decorative border. First edition; a few of the cuts were used in earlier publications (see Mortimer for details). This set of illustrations eventually grew to 194 blocks. The elaborate decorative borders on each page are also attributed to Salomon.

Fol. m4 (blank in this copy; some copies have de Tournes's device) has an inscription dated 1760 on the recto, and a drawing of two figures on the verso.
