DescriptionA large plate or bowl, painted underglaze, using black outlines and a palette of blue, pale turquoise and raised red. Underneath, the bowl is hastily decorated with six peony flowers which alternate with six trilobed motifs, all of these figures splashed with blue. On its face, the decoration is in three registers, the design of the cavetto being separated from that of the well by two spaced black lines. The rim is painted, between single black lines, with a vestigial version of the rock and wave border, in blue and black. The cavetto alternates leaflike and pointed figures, in red and blue and in a single line. The well has a carefully applied turquoise ground and displays a lively asymmetric bouquet springing from a leafy tuft, in red, blue and reserve white. Hatayi flowers, tulips and saz leaves are combined, in swirling motion, and there are suggestions of figures extending under the well’s border.
