DescriptionStanding figure of a nude woman. Arms crossed in front at wrists and hands clasping her large breasts. Hair done in coils around top of head and down back of neck. Mounted on a square block of wood. This figure and its male counterpart are among the earliest surviving from the Near East. Their meaning and function are unknown.
Provenance1935-1938, excavated in Tell Judaidah by the Marriner Memorial Syrian Expedition, University of Chicago and MFA; 1949, given in the division of finds to the MFA. (Accession Date: March 10, 1949)
