DescriptionStanding figure of a nude circumcised man wearing part of a silver helmet. Large nose and wide-open eyes. Bearded. Band around waist fastening in front. Hands held just above shoulders with fingers closed forming a round opening which once received weapons. This figure and its female counterpart are among the earliest surviving from the Near East. Their meaning and function are unknown.
Provenance1935-1938, excavated in Tell Judaidah by the Marriner Memorial Syrian Expedition, University of Chicago and MFA; 1949, given in the division of finds to the MFA. (Accession Date: March 10, 1949)
