DescriptionThe book by the author and naval officer Kimura Kōkichi (1861-1940), with 18 illustrations by Kobayashi Teikō, was scheduled to be published in February 1896 but was suppressed because of the realism of the text and the illustrations--the cruel aspects of the war were not considered appropriate for public consumption.
The MFA has 4 of the unbound illustrations, 2000.330 to 2000.333.
