DescriptionSide A: Zeus, holding a scepter, pursues Ganymede and grabs the boy's right arm as he attempts to flee. The boy carries a hoop and hoop-stick, common toys and often attributes of Ganymede. Both wear decorated himations and wreaths added in purple.

Side B: A wreathed and draped youth advances to the right while looking over his shoulder and carrying a joint of meat in his left hand.

An elaborate band of palmettes serves as the ground line for both scenes.

ProvenanceBetween 1879-1886, excavated in a necropolis at Suessula by Baron Marcello Spinelli and kept in his estate near Cancello, Italy [see note 1]; by 1910, E. P. Warren (b. 1860 - d. 1928), London; 1910, sold by E. P. Warren to the MFA for $4,000 [note 2]. (Accession date: June 2, 1910)
