DescriptionInitially catalogued as the top of a stand but possibly knob of great lid.
Top convex with sunken tondo. Rim black above and on underside; stem black with red ring at top; remainder reserved. In tondo, bearded man presenting cock to nude youth ; fox to l., hare to right. Nonsense inscriptions.
ProvenanceMay 30, 1892, Van Branteghem Sale, Hotel Drouot, Paris, lot 25. By 1898: Edward Perry Warren (according to his records: bought in Italy); 1908: gift of Edward Perry Warren to MFA; accessioned 1910.
