DescriptionOn the front of the handle, head of a woman; on the discs at the side, Gorgo heads; at the base, a Siren on a palmette and volutes. Rivet holes at either end mark the places of attachment to the vessel itself. The faces of the woman and the Siren are slightly crude, possibly because of the small scale of the handle, but the Gorgo heads are very elegant, paralleling the designs found in gilded terracottas of the late fifth and fourth centuries. Green patina.
