DescriptionPainting with no borders, fragment of a thangka.
The large figure left of center is Subhuti, one of the chief disciples of the Buddha. He is accompanied by several fanciful birds and attendants. At the lower left corner are four protective deities (including Dhrtarashtra). In the upper left corner is a monastic figure with hands in anjali mudra. In the upper right is a Buddha in the earth-touching gesture with attendants. At the lower right, a large aquatic animal spits fire at one of the birds. Subhuti sits next to a water pot and jar with a fish net on top.
